Nose Reshaping

Being situated right in the middle of the face it is difficult to ignore the nose. The psychological burden of a misshapen nose can be unbearable. In addition some patients can have difficulties with breathing through the nose.

Results

The nose is composed of complex anatomical elements: bone, skin, nasal septum, nasal mucous membrane and cartilage. Problems with these features can lead to deformation with unwanted aesthetic or functional consequences and mean that an operation is necessary. During the operation, each of the above components can be corrected, depending on the extent of the damage/deformation. At the end of the operation you will have a nose which is in proportion with your face. If you have problems with breathing through your nose, this is also relieved during the operation.

The Operation

In most cases the operation is carried out internally which means that there are rarely any visible scars after the surgery. The operation is usually carried out under a general anaesthetic although minor corrections can be made under a local anaesthetic. The surgeon operates step by step and changes the form of the nose to that which the patient wishes. For example, a crooked septum can be straightened. The incisions in the mucous membranes are then closed and tampons placed in the nose to stop bleeding. If work has been done on the bone/cartilage the surgeon will place a splint on the nose. In Cirumed Clinic we conduct an interdisciplinary approach, in which Plastic surgeon Dr Aslani carries out the outer framework of the nose in cooperation with ENT surgeon Dr.Ortiz who embarks on intranasal fiberoptic examination.

What a patient should know?

Mucous membranes are very sensitive to changes: breathing through the nose may be restricted for a few days after the tampons are removed. Splints are removed after 14 days. The patient will need to apply ointment to the mucous membranes after the operation. Often there is bruising around the eyes, which may take 1 to 2 weeks to settle. It is completely normal for the nose to be swollen after such an operation. This means that patients have to wait a few weeks until they can see the actual end results. Rhinoplasties may require touch up procedures not infrequently, which are usually minor but cannot be conducted before a full year has past.
