Eyelid Correction

Drooping eyebrows can make a person look tired and tense. Occasionally they can make it difficult for a person to see. It is possible to remove surplus fatty tissue, skin and muscles. Young people may choose this procedure in order to remove congenital fatty tissue or reduce swollen upper lids. For those patients whose sight is restricted (ie drooping eyelids make it difficult to see) the costs of the operation can be covered by the National Health Insurance Fund.

The level of rejuvenation varies from patient to patient. We will examine your eyelids very closely in order to work out the optimal operational procedure for you.

The Operation

An incision is made in the natural crease of the upper lid. Excess fatty tissue, skin and sagging muscles are removed; the eyelid muscles and orbital septum may also be tightened if necessary. The incision is then be closed with fine stitches. The scar is hidden in the natural crease of the upper lid and is therefore difficult to see later on. Ideally this operation is carried out under a local anaesthetic. The operation should not last longer than one hour. However the duration of the operation depends on the applied method and how much surgery needs to be done.

What a patient should know?

Swelling and bruising is to be expected following this operation, although these improve relatively quickly. By following postoperative instructions, such as using cold compresses and keeping relaxed, the worst of the swelling and bruising should have completely disappeared within a week. Following the operation it is normal for patients to feel a little tight around the eye area, this can feel a little uncomfortable. Scarring of the upper lid is generally inconspicuous. All operational procedures and all risks will be discussed during your personal consultation with your doctor. Once you feel you have been informed comprehensively, you can undergo this surgery without any fears.
